We have a lot to be thankful for our flatmates for. We all have out good days and bad days, and whether it’d be after a long hard day at work, or dramas in your personal life, your flatmates will always be there to listen. We may fight with them from time to time, but more than anything, we wouldn’t be able to live without them.

Here are 11 reasons to be thankful for about our flatmates

Reason #1

“You’re hungry at 11pm — Your flatmates will agree it’s a good idea to get a pizza, Buffalo wings, and Insomnia Cookies all at once. They don’t let you feel guilty because they’ll eat with you.”

Reason #2

For all the late-night pillow talk sessions. Should you have probably been sleeping the night before your big psych exam? Sure! But flatmate pillow talk is always too good to pass up.

Reason #3

They let you know when you’re wrong because they’re not afraid of damaging a friendship — your relationship is strong enough to face confrontations when there are disagreements. You know any criticism comes from their hearts.

Reason #4

Your feelings are always validated. If you’re still angry about a time last semester when someone cut in front of you in the line in the cafeteria, your flatmates remember the specific incident and remind you it’s okay to be angry. In fact, they’re still angry for you.

Reason #5

For giving me a second family. Because there’s really nothing more fun than chatting with your flatmate’s mom, FaceTiming her dog, or calling her boyfriend with her.

Reason #6

For politely leaving the room when you need to have a break-down-crying phone call with your mom. Because those also seem to happen at least once a year.

Reason #7

For answering life’s really tough questions like “can I go another day without showering?” or “is it normal for ______?

Reason #8

Flatmates mean you’ve got a ragtag clan of “up for anything” friends who will drive to get milkshakes at midnight.

Reason #9

For being understanding and empathetic when I have the annual week-long plague of a cold, when I spend half the night blowing my nose and the other half hacking up a lung. Thanks for losing sleep with me on that one bud.

Reason #10

For introducing me to new things. Whether it be that weird cereal they always ate in high school, or a cool new song, they’re always showing you what’s hip and happenin’.

Reason #11

You’re forced to challenge your own beliefs. Your ways of living and studying and communicating are not the only ways — your flatmates remind you about all the differences. Because of them, you face those differences and learn to respect them.
