One bathroom, or sharing a bathroom with a housemate?
This is always a controversial topic and can lead to many broken friendships and disastrous share houses!
To avoid the uncomfortable conversations later, maybe try and work out some specific bathroom times, especially in the morning and most flatmates have to be off for work at the same time.
Might be worth limiting shower times as well, especially over the cooler months. Hot showers can greatly contribute to the electricity bill. We don’t want anyone thinking that someone else is responsible for the “through the roof” power bill!
Is there any bathroom etiquette already in place? If a new flatmate is coming on board, could be good time to set some ground rules.
Toiletries Storage
Want to avoid a heated argument about shampoo or “top of the range” body wash? You may want to consider storing your toiletries in your room. We know this may be a bit inconvenient, but believe us, it will save having the arguments later.
Toilet roll..
We were going to give this one it’s own post, but at the end of the day, it’s a no-brainer!
Most people have been in the situation where they have been left stranded. A quick fix to this problem is to leave spare toilet rolls within arms reach of the toilet.
If the household has a roster, maybe add a “check toilet roll” chore.
Toilet seat..
Males, take note!
If you’re living with females, don’t forget to return the toilet seat to the down position! Females notice these things…
It’s also a feng-shui thing 🙂
General Cleanliness
Look, it’s not rocket science, it’s a bathroom. if you make a mess, clean it up. How simple and obvious is that!? Have a system in place to ensure that bathmats don’t stay saturated on the floor, and if you do leave any “personal body bits” laying around in the shower or the toilet seat, it’s not that hard to use a bit of toilet paper to clean up a bit.
We really don’t know why we had to write this blog post because we are all adults, but hey, at the same time we are only human!
Happy bathrooming!! (is that really a word? It is now!)
Do you have any tips for a trouble free bathroom / share house?
